Yes, it’s true!! If you missed the boat last time then this could be
your chance to see what all the fuss is about!
Check out first hand how the application of science is helping to
restore the wild Gouldian – and give us bird breeders a few added
benefits too!!
If you are a supporter of the Fund you will know all about the
proposed Open Day but this is the chance for the rest of you to get on
board and visit the Macquarie University's Gouldian Research Centre at Mike
Fidler’s property nestled in the hills around Morisett - around 2 hours
from Sydney!
It is also a chance to see Mike’s own breeding set up which we think
you will agree is a bit different!
Closer to the day we will be able to supply more detailed information on
the actual way to Mikes abode as it is just a bit off the beaten track!
However, for those planning to come in by air, Newcastle Airport is
50 mins away – Sydney airport is connected to the rail network which
gets you to Morisset Railway Station, just 15mins from Mike’s and we
will be arranging a pick up.
A local accommodation list is available.
As it is a quarantine station as well as a research facility it is
very difficult to visit outside of these specially organised Open Days
so avoid disappointment and get in early.
The date of the Open Day is Saturday the 18th of October
2008 and the cost will be $25 which goes directly to the Save The
Gouldian Fund.
Dr Sarah Pryke and others of her team will be on hand to take you through her nutritional
studies and demonstrate her work on dominance hierarchy. Mike will be
there to field all Gouldian related questions and maybe even to sign
your Gouldian Finch book!!
There are workshops running all day and trade stalls and speakers will
be on hand to make the day a memorable one.
If you wish to attend please give John Butler, the organiser of the
day, a call on 02 49383552
